What to Look for in a Breast Lift Surgeon
Choosing the right surgeon is one of the most important decisions you will make about your breast lift. If you feel overwhelmed by options and don’t know where to start, Dr. Ary Krau has some helpful guidelines. Here, he describes what to look for in a breast lift surgeon.
Education, Training and Certification
Your breast lift surgeon should have a medical degree from an accredited medical school. He or she should have completed a plastic surgery residency training program. Additional fellowship training is a bonus.
Your breast lift surgeon should be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. This verifies that the plastic surgeon has completed the necessary training for the field and passed comprehensive examination of procedures (including breast lift).
Your breast lift surgeon should also be licensed to practice medicine in Florida. And, the facility in which they operate should be accredited by a trustworthy organization (e.g., the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities).
To ascertain your breast lift surgeon’s credentials, you can look for proof around the office. Most plastic surgeons have their medical school degrees and board certification documents clearly displayed. Licenses should also be in plain view. If not, you are well within your rights to ask for documented proof of education, training and certification.
Breast Lift Surgery Experience
Having plenty of experience with breast lift surgery is important for several reasons. It means not only that your surgeon has refined his techniques and understands how to deliver great results, but also that he or she knows what to do in case something goes wrong. Complications are rare, but when they do occur, you want an experienced surgeon that knows how to handle them with the fewest consequences.
To assess your surgeon’s experience, you can inquire about how many breast lift procedures they have performed. Ask how they handle complications that arise. Looking at a gallery of former breast lift patients is also helpful for you to visualize the type of results typical of your surgeon. Try to look at patients that have a torso and breast shape similar to yours. This gives you a clear idea of how the surgeon tailors the procedure to patients with your concerns and body type.
