Tips for a Successful Recovery from Breast Lift Surgery
Preparing for breast lift surgery can be both exciting and nerve wracking. The prospect of perkier, more beautiful breasts is something to look forward to, but the thought of surgical complications or not getting the results you want can be worrisome. Fortunately, you can minimize the risk of post-op complications and increase your chances of long-lasting results by preparing for your recovery ahead of time. In this blog post, Miami breast surgery specialist Dr. Ary Krau shares several tips for a successful recovery.
Must-Have Items for Your Recovery
Hair ties are the last thing you want to think about while recovering, but they can be very useful during recovery. Here are some other items you should have on-hand to avoid any emergency or last-minute trips to the store:
- Comfort food and drinks
- Frozen meals
- Bottled water
- Extra pillows
- Ice packs
- Heating pad
- Wet wipes
- Makeup removal pads
- Batteries for electronics
Prepare Your Home
Your bed or couch will become your recovery sanctuary for the first few days after surgery. Have plenty of soft pillows on your bed and clean bed sheets and blankets so you don’t have to worry about laundry. Place any must-have items you anticipate needing (such as remote control, phone) near your bed. If you prefer home-cooked food over frozen foods, prepare your meals ahead of time.
Be sure to lay out clothes that are easy to put on and easy to take off. Shirts with buttons or zippers can minimize pain, while shirts or dresses that require you to raise your arms above your head can cause additional strain.
Fill Your Prescriptions
To minimize pain and reduce your risk of post-op infection, Dr. Krau may prescribe you certain medications. Dr. Krau recommends that you fill these prescriptions ahead of time so they are ready for you to take after surgery. Be sure to let Dr. Krau know about any medications you are taking before your surgery. He will let you know whether or not they are safe to take during your recovery.
If you have young children or pets, ask a loved one to help you take care of them for the first few days of your recovery.
It’s also wise to fill up your gas tank before your surgery and have your keys handy in case of an emergency. Try to run as many errands as possible before your surgery. The first week after surgery is a time for you to relax and for your body to recover and heal properly.
